Nhyira Oforiwaa Asante

Nhyira Oforiwaa Asante (she/her) is a New York City-based Ghanaian-American dancer, choreographer, and model from the Bronx. She graduated magna cum laude from New York University, earning a degree in dance from the Tisch School of the Arts, alongside a degree in sociology from the College of Arts and Sciences. Her unwavering commitment to her craft blossomed at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, where she majored in dance, further solidifying her passion and paving the way for her artistic journey. She continued her dance training at institutions such as the Dance Theatre of Harlem School, The Ailey School, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, MOVE|NYC|I, Ballet Hispánico, and HAMU, the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, Czech Republic. She has performed works by choreographers such as Robert Garland, Jamar Roberts, Sidra Bell, Trisha Brown, Bill T. Jones, and Robyn Mineko. She was also a featured dancer in Jacolby Satterwhite's Lincoln Center digital installation, "An Eclectic Dance to the Movement of Time."

Her choreographic work has been selected for platforms such as the Battery Park Dance Festival, Forza Dance Festival, Moving Forward's Emerging Choreographer Festival, and the Dance Enthusiast. Additionally, she is the winner of the 2022 Upsurge Dance Festival's choreographic mentorship with Sidra Bell. She has worked as an associate choreographer for the Stephen Sondheim Awards, hosted at the Shubert Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut, and as a research fellow at Sidra Bell's summer MODULE program. She has also worked with brands and artists like Kaliii, Travis Scott, SNIPES USA, and Amika.
